I PHOTOGRAPH PEOPLE
I have been photographing for as long as I can remember. In the beginning, I studied architecture, my obsession was to make perfect photographs. My problem was always the people who “littered” the places, squares and buildings I portrayed on my trips or outings. But then something changed. A bit like in Ciàula discovers the Moon, Pirandello’s novella in which the boy who is a miner once becomes enraptured at the sight of the Moon despite the fact that he had always had it in front of his eyes but never really looked at it, I fell in love with them, and realized that it was I who did not know how to photograph them.
I studied reportage photography and learned to tell the beauty of reality and human beings even in their imperfection, which is an essential part of the uniqueness and soul of everything. Professionally, I then specialized both in wedding and family reportage and in creating images that help define a brand identity.
Basically, reportage is about telling an event, a situation, a story. It is an approach that comes across as much more alive and personal, more human. Henri Cartier-Bresson, one of the fathers of this photographic genre, once said that photography is about placing the mind, the eyes and the heart on the same line of sight. I have always tried to make this phrase my own because if you can converge in a single photo, in addition to what you see, the energy of a moment, the intensity of an emotion, the perception of an atmosphere, well, so cool!
Roberta is my partner in life. She apparently deals with something different because she is a Shiatsu practitioner and teacher. Together, however, we started a joint project in Spotorno called Bottega Gassho, from the word for joining hands, opposites, to make them one.
Our common denominator is precisely people: we like to take care of them through well-being and the pursuit of beauty, understood first and foremost as diversity, uniqueness, paying attention to what characterizes each of us and makes us special and recognizable. Beauty is not necessarily an aesthetic canon, but above all something that fills our hearts. Celebrating it means taking care of us, as individuals, as a collective, and giving a flavor of quality to our lives. Come and visit us!
